Brass and silver octagonal equatorial sundial made in France circa 1680. 

The base plate is entirely engraved with a stylized mavelot and acanthus leaves

This baseplate supports a mobile hour circle with its folding gnomon, a folding latitude arc, a small knob to support the hour circle in the closed position and a circular silver compass whose bottom is engraved with the 4 cardinal points in French with a division into 4 times 90°, a central rose topped by a needle, all covered with glass. 

The back is plain. 

Nota: very rare model of sundial.

Dimensions: 6.3 cm x 5.5 cm x 0.8 cm.

France made circa 1680.
